Michelle Pascoe

Michelle Pascoe is an Associate Professor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Division at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

She is Director of Child Language Africa, an interdisciplinary research unit concerned with young children’s language development and difficulties in the African context, and using this information to develop culturally and linguistically appropriate tools for valid and reliable language assessment. 

Michelle is a speech and language therapist with a particular interest in speech development in the languages of Southern Africa, multilingualism and ways to support clinicians when working with families from a range of language backgrounds.

She is a member of the International Expert Panel on Multilingual Children’s Speech, and an associate editor of Child Language Teaching and Therapy and Logopedics Phoniatrics and Vocology. She is co-author of two books on children’s speech and literacy development, several book chapters and more than 30 peer-reviewed papers.
